El último fin de semana de febrero me fui a Ciudad Juárez con una amiga. A ser una visita de semi emergencia al dentista. Si yo se que suena un poco ridículo ya que yo vivo en NY. Pero no he tenido muy buena suerte encontrando un buen dentista en NY. Aparte de que es muy caro. Fui a cambiar una corona que se me había quebrado un poco hace 2 meses y de paso tapar caries. La corona que escogí es de zirconio, toma semanas en que la tengan lista. Entonces tendré que regresar a juárez a ponerla y tapar las caries que faltaron. Por ahora tengo una temporal de resina.

On the last weekend of February, my friend and I visited the city of Juárez for a semi-emergency visit to the dentist. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous since I live in NY. Dentists are very expensive in NY for this reason I took the trip to change a crown which broke about 2 months ago and to also get rid of some cavities. During my visit to the dentist in Juarez I was able to get infills in only a few cavities, and I also decided to pick a zirconia crown. The dentist stated that it will take a few weeks for them to have it ready, which also means I will have to go back to Juarez to get the crown placed, but for now I have a temp resin crown.
Taking advantage of the time in Juarez, my friend and I went to visit places I’ve never had the chance to visit due to moving from the city of Juarez at a very young age.
Our last day in Juárez we visited the following places:
El Parian Menuderia
Primero comenzamos el día yendo a comer menudo a El Parian Menuderia. Cuando llegamos al restaurante, me sorprendió la cantidad de personas que estaban afuera. Esperando su comida para llevar o para asignarles una mesa en el restaurante. Pero después de que el restaurante nos asignó una mesa y probamos el menudo, ¡todo tenía sentido, D-E-L-I-C-I-O-S-O! Nunca había probado un menudo tan rico. Definitivamente lo recomiendo a cualquiera que visite Juárez.
First we started the day by going to eat menudo at El Parian Menuderia. When we got to the restaurant we were surprised at how many people were standing outside. Waiting for their take out or seats at the restaurant. After the restaurant got us seated and we tried the menudo, it all made sense D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!. Never had menudo that tasted so great, I’ll definitely recommend it to anybody visiting Juarez.
El Monumento de la Mexicanidad
Con nuestra estómago lleno de menudo, nos subimos al auto y le pedimos a nuestro amigo que nos llevará a unos pocos kilómetros para ir a visitar el monumento de la Mexicanidad, también conocida como la “X”. La “X” no es solo una gran X roja. Sino que también tiene una figura en forma de ojo en el medio. Que me llevó a descubrir que el escultor mexicano Enrique Carbajal González se inspiró en la mitología azteca “Nahaui Ollin”, que significa “la creación de la quinta edad”, esto condujo a la creación de la hermosa X roja que ves en la foto. Realmente disfruté la vista y el tiempo que pasé allí con amigos.
With our belly full of menudo. We hopped into the car and had our friend drive us a few miles to visit the monument of the Mexicanidad. Also known as the “X”. The “X” is not only a big red X but also has an eye like figure in the middle which leads me to discover that Mexican sculptor Enrique Carbajal González was inspired by Aztec mythology “Nahaui Ollin” which means “the fifth age creation”. This lead to the creation of the beautiful red X you see in the picture. Truly enjoyed the view and the time spent there with friends.
Kentucky Bar and Grill
Nuestra siguiente parada fue el famoso Kentucky Bar and Grill. Kentucky es conocido como el lugar de nacimiento de las margaritas. Todos los días cientos de personas de todo Juárez y otras partes de los Estados Unidos. Visitan para probar el sabor que inventaron las primeras margaritas y tuve la suerte de ser una de ellas. Debo decirle que las margaritas son como ninguna otra con el sabor fresco y único. Mientras saboreaba las margaritas, pude disfrutar de verdad rockeando y rodando a su lista de reproducción, me sentí como si viajara en el tiempo a un bar en los años 80, aunque el bar es aun mas viejo.
Our following stop was the one and only Kentucky Bar and Grill. Kentucky is known as the birthplace of margaritas and everyday hundreds of people from around Juarez and other parts of the US visit to get the taste the first margaritas invented and I was lucky enough to be one. I must tell you the margaritas are like no other with the fresh and unique taste. While sipping on the margaritas I was able to truly enjoy myself rocking and rolling to their playlist. It felt like I time traveled to a bar in the 80’s, although it felt that way the bar is in fact not as young.
Kentucky Bar and Grill abrió en 1920 dos años después de que la Primera Guerra Mundial acabará. El bar pudo guardar las pegatinas de las banderas de los aliados.
Kentucky Bar and Grill opened in 1920 two years after World War I ended. The bar was able to keep the stickers of the allied flags.
También tienen la caja registradora utilizada durante ese tiempo.
They also have the cash register used during that time.
CHUCHOS!
No podíamos irnos de la ciudad de Juárez sin probar los famosos chuchos que pudimos probar en el bar Yankees. Los famosos Chuchos, es una bebida hecha con sotol y la raíz de tarahumara Chuchupaztle.
Pude investigar un poco sobre las propiedades de la planta (Chuchupaztle) y descubrí que tiene muchas propiedades útiles para el cuerpo humano. Mejora el sistema digestivo y aumenta el apetito. De hecho, después de tomar algunas shots de chuchos. Nuestro tracto digestivo se limpió al día siguiente y nuestro acné disminuyó enormemente.
My friend and I could not leave the city of Juarez without trying the famous chuchos which we were able to try at the Yankees bar. The famous Chuchos is a drink made with sotol and the Tarahumara root Chuchupaztle. I was able to do some research on the properties of the plant (Chuchupaztle) and found out it has many helpful properties for the human body. It improves the digestive system and increases the appetite. In fact after taking a few shots of the chuchos. My friend and I noticed that our digestive tract was cleansed for the following day and our acne decreased tremendously.
Pockets & La Bodeguita Bar
Nuestra penúltima parada fue Pockets bar and billar, un lugar donde la gente va a tomar, comer y jugar billar. Después de jugar algunas rondas de billar. Pedimos algunas bebidas pero los shots de mango fue el que más se destacó. Debido a su delicioso sabor a mango y chile mexicano. Allí pude comer nachos de Juárez, que extrañe mucho comer. El sabor único de los nachos no se puede comparar con los nachos que he probado en los Estados Unidos.
Nuestra última parada fue en el bar la Bodeguita donde tomamos shots de pepino y micheladas.
Our penultimate stop was Pockets bar and billiards, a place where people grab drinks, food, and play pool. After playing a few rounds of pool. We ordered a few drinks. The mango shot was the one that stood out the most, due to its delicious taste of mango and mexican chile. There I was able to eat nachos from Juarez, which I very much miss eating. The unique taste of the nachos cannot be compared with nachos i’ve tried in the United states.
The Bodeguita bar was our last stop, where we had cucumber shots and micheladas.
Pronto de nuevo en Juárez
Pronto tendré que regresar a juárez a ponerme mi corona de zirconio y tapar las caries que faltaron. Tambien aprovechare el tiempo para seguir visitando lugares que me faltaron y visitar familia.
Soon I will return to Juarez to have my zirconia crown placed and fix the remaining cavities. I will also take the time to continue visiting places that I missed and visit family.
